Hi everyone! I'm new to the Forum and noticed that we didn't have a Vet social group. There were a lot of Pre-Med, Pre Dental, ect... but not any for us. Just wanted to let everyone know I started one! Its called "Aspiring Veterinarians", a social group for pre vet ( and vets who have found their dream) to come together to discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly about vet medicine! Come Join!! 🙂

Apparently SDN has "social groups." If you look at her profile, there's a link to the Aspiring Veterinarians social group from there...

But since we're kind of a small group anyway, I'm not sure how much sense it makes to have essentially a second forum.
 
ooo i see. yea, Vetgirl, id recommend reading our threads on here and posting more in the pre-vet forum. it's the same thing. Good luck on your application this year. it's nice you are getting started early. I'm sure everyone else who is applying is also really nervous! you will find this is basically like a social forum, we have a lot of "fun" threads that would probably be blocked in the pre-allo forum

But still, we're all Aspiring Vets already yah? That's why we're here. Any Aspiring Astronauts here?

Though that'd be a cool joint usage. DVM/Astronaut. Someone's gotta care for the monkeys.

Ok, this has me seriously thinking....

First off, I am applying first (dibs) on the vet position on the moon base that NASA wants to build. I am sure they will have some animals up there. New specialty: astronomical vet? - sounds like the amount of debt needed to become a vet though!

The other thing I can't help but think is that if I already freak out because my dogs jump too much.... how are they going to do in low gravity? Gonna need a reaaaaaly long tether.
 
Actually I've thought of the moon base thing as well (though not so much the long tethers). I also thought it'd be awesome to be like a...life sciences officer? Or whatever, on the first trip to Mars. Probably gonna hold off til we get faster propulsion systems though lol.


Wanted to be an astronaut for a while. Guess it hasn't totally worn off yet.

On a side note: not to scare any applicants this year, but I'm SO GLAD that's over and done with. Anyone else agree? Haha..

lol definitely. I can't handle the stress anymore. I thought the application process was stressful, but now I actually think the "waiting game" was more stressful. I feel like I wasted my whole year refreshing the SDN page and my email :laugh: (of course, i am not implying SDN is a waste of time, but i think i went overload and i never did any work during the day like i was supposed to lol) This waiting game was spread out from Oct-Jan, then I heard about interviews...but then I had to play the waiting game AGAIN after the interviews. Not to mention the mini heart attacks i suffered from seeing SDN pages pop up as new

Yep... Right there with you BlacKat... SO much SDN and mailbox stalking... I swear people in some of my classes and apartment complex must have thought I was crazy... and the poor mailman knew who I was by the end of it...
 
Well I did get into vet school on the basis of being an engineering vet, so I guess astronaut vet is also a plausible choice! I'm totally going to make a bionic kitten.

That is ridiculously slick. Closest thing I got to do in undergrad that was like that was with remote control cars, but on a much smaller scale. And they came outta a box from wally world.

I think things like this are what give non-trads a true advantage over us boring bio bits.
 
I hear ya BlacKAT, there were times this past year when I really thought I was just going goofy. P.S. Sorry, no funny klutz stories at the moment, just run-of-the-mill walking in to furniture. Of course, I got slammed in to the wall a few times by a huge angry foal last weekend, so I don't know which bruises are from what.

one of our grads is a DVM astronaut. most awesome job ever.
