So... My primary is already verified and I assigned my LORs to all my schools already so I can't change my amcas application... But I just realized that I'm applying to some schools that require LORs when you get an interview invite or when they specifically request it (like Mayo and Duke and I think Vandy also.)

Is this going to hurt me? I heard Mayo is okay with it, but what about Duke and Vandy?

I'm also confused about this...if you can't change letter designations after submitting your AMCAS, how are you supposed to assign letters after receiving an interview? The Mayo website says that they notify you by email if they require letters for you, so do they somehow let you assign letters later on?

You can always add LORs but you can't delete them if you've sent it to a school already.

yeah... whoops I didn't realize this for Duke either. Will it hurt if the letters have been sent?

No worries guys; it won't hurt you at all if you've already designated them. The letters are just available now for when the admissions committee needs them.

Hopefully... I hope it's not like that thing that Einstein (I think) did a couple cycles ago when applicants submitted their secondary without an invite.

So I'm planning for next year….. Your application included your letters of recommendation. Now you discovered that certain schools will ask for letters of recommendations. Shouldn't they all? How is this different? aren't LoR part of the application? Did you use Interfolio?

Here's one possible explanation: these schools want to be sure you have certain people who recommend you, like a Science professor, a Humanities professor, and a supervisor.
