Finding an associateship isn't too tough. Finding the "perfect" associateship is what often takes a few attempts.
The way that I like to look at an associateship, especially one where you might somedays have the intentions of it becoming a partnership or even a full owner situation, is that its like finding a spouse. At first, the pool of potential spouses is quite large(associateship opportunities), and many times what seems to be the "perfect" potential spouse is taken. But, you find a potential spouse and you may decide you want to marry this potential spouse (taking the associateship). Some will end up in a happy marriage (partnership/ownership) and some will end up either never getting married (LONG term associateship) or getting divorced and moving on (finding a new associateship).
I jokingly refer to my partnership situation in the following way. I have 2 wives, ones a 30 something female who I see every night and weekends and the other's a 46 year old balding male who I see most weekdays from 8AM to 5PM😀
