In light of recent radiation oncology medical errors that have drawn negative media attention, ASTRO has proposed a six-point protection plan:

While its bewildering that it has taken this long to conceive of instituting these seemingly fundamental objectives, its a relief that desperately need standardized preventative measures are finally being implemented.

With regards to objective 2 - Launching a significantly enhanced practice accreditation program and beginning the development of additional accreditation modules specifically addressing new, advanced technologies such as IMRT, SBRT and brachytherapy:

Does anybody have any idea how and when these accreditation programs and/or modules will be implemented?

And, with regards to objective 3 - Expanding our educational training programs to include specific courses on quality assurance and safety and adding additional content to other educational programs:

For those of us who are presently residents, and will likely graduate prior to QA seriously becoming integrated into educational curriculum, any insights on how we may take it upon ourselves to optimize our understanding of radiation QA and safety?
