Technology asus vs sony laptops

looking to purchase a laptop. Looking at sony vs asus.. which brand should i get.. which company will i get better support from?

1) Pick comparable models from each brand
2) Customize each to your liking (with the same specs)
3) See which is cheaper --> go with that one

... I have not had the misfortune of dealing with tech support from either company so I'm not sure who would be worse.

Asus RMA support is pretty good in the sense that they will believe you when you say you need to send the machine back (they won't waste your time with troubleshooting), and they give you a prepaid label and everything.

That said, I think Sony makes sexier looking laptops, but they also carry a price premium. My experience with Sony machines is that they also can carry some "specialized" hardware that usually gets orphaned driver-wise when a new version of Windows comes out (like some of the TV Tuners in some models of VAIO).

Asus will win any price/value battles 99% of the time.

I've heard a lot of bad things about support for Asus, but haven't dealt with it directly.
