Asus RMA support is pretty good in the sense that they will believe you when you say you need to send the machine back (they won't waste your time with troubleshooting), and they give you a prepaid label and everything.
That said, I think Sony makes sexier looking laptops, but they also carry a price premium. My experience with Sony machines is that they also can carry some "specialized" hardware that usually gets orphaned driver-wise when a new version of Windows comes out (like some of the TV Tuners in some models of VAIO).
Asus will win any price/value battles 99% of the time.
