i suppose this pertains mainly to august mcater's...

but in general, what point are we in the interview season? 1/2 way?
if an interview invite has not been received from a school, it is safe to assume getting an interview for january will be very difficult.

pushing things back into february and march seems dubious in an effort to actually getting accepted.

as form, i have been rejected from 2 schools w/o an interview, 3 interviews pending (in january), and 1 interviewed and rejected.

however, i'm waiting to hear from 12 schools. For instance, i have contacted drexel and i am 'under consideration' but i think all the interview spots are filled until march. also, some schools have not even gotten to applicants that completed in october (like UMD-RWJ, Georgetown)

This is of course the million dollar question. But I`ll give you my take on it.

First, don`t even think you`re going to get an interview invite for January. It`s just not realistic. Interviews are generally a minimum of 4 weeks after the invite, possibly longer. There are of course exceptions to this.

Here`s the way I´m looking at it. This is the height of the season. All the cards are on the table, eveyone`s application is in as of this week. So you could think of this week as the begining of the real deal. Some schools (Stanford) have yet to interview a single person. Others are probably more than halfway done.

If your application has been complete for more than 6 weeks, its likely that it`s already been at least glanced at. If you haven`t heard anything, that means that aren´t hot about you, but there ALSO HAVEN`T REJECTED you. This is key. Do not dismay. It means they have a wait and see attitude. So . . . give them something new to look at. Send them a letter, especially to the school you are dying to go to. Tell them what you`re up to, and that you think their school is right for you.

I have only one interview, but its at a school I really want to go to, so I`m psyched, I have`t heard a word from the 8 others that haven`t already rejected me.

Keep in mind, getting an interview in Feb, Mar or even later is hardly a bad thing. Less people are getting in then, but who are those poeple? The people who have made it clear they are very interested and really want to go to a particular school.

This is all of course, just my opinion. I hope it helps. The key is to say someone has already looked at my file. Don`t think they didn´t like me, think they haven´t rejected me, which they very easily could have done.

Good Luck to everyone.

i have a hard time gauging where we are in the interview season myself. I tend to fall more towards the OP as far as personal opinion goes, but whenever i update my advisor on my status or when interviewers ask me where else i'm interviewing, they always add on the comment "it's pretty early in the interview season", which confuses me. It has crossed my mind that maybe they're comforting me, but I've had a good number of interviews between the August MCAT scores coming back and end of 2004.

it doesn't make me feel better that the last few invites that have trickled in, in December, have been scheduled at an "earliest possible date" of late February or early March. It makes me feel like I'm pushing right up against the edge, especially since I"m also (like the OP), waiting for a response from 10+ schools.

like almost all questions on sdn, it all depends on the school.
-if its a school like columbia which plans on giving out decisions in Feb on all applicants and you haven't got an interview invite by early Jan, than things aren't looking so good
-in general though, if you've been complete at a school for over 3 months and they are already busy in interview season (like almost all school except Stanford) then your app has been reviewed at least once and you've either been placed on hold or thrown into the reject pile. i wouldnt start to get worried until that 3 month mark and then if you're still dying to go there, send some update/Letters of interest letters

Does OP = original post?

Thanks.

yes.

Well, I'm going to add to the frustration. I had my AMCAS in 8/1, April MCAT, but my pre-med committee letter didn't go out until the end of Oct. 11 schools total. 1 pre-secondary rejection. 1 post-interview rejection, 2 interviews coming up in Jan and Feb. Haven't heard a word from the others. Honestly, I'm very concerned on whether I'll be accepted this year with average stats, and such late interviews. :scared: Or is it just SDN freaking me out?

I am always in worrying since August (when I turned in my last secondary) ... I am losing hope .... hope = exp(-nt) where t = time since sec completed, and n = positive integer, depends on personality and school =)
