I have a friend who is interested in playing football at a university that uses the quarter system. Is it more difficult to be a student athlete on a quarter system rather than a semester

thanks

anybody know someone who was on the quarter sys and an athlete?

I was.... I really cant think of any reason that it was/would be more difficult. I know fall athletes (football, soccer etc) probably have to report to school earlier than the rest of the student body because most quarter schools start later than semester schools. Our football team was usually playing their first game during our first week at school. So many sports have structured off-season training as well, so i think the semester / quarter issue just gets blended all together. Did your friend have any specific problems in mind?

Hey...I'm just finishing up my last year on the quarter system. I'm not an athlete, but I will say that the quarter system (at least here) is much more intense than the semester system. There isn't as much downtime around exams...you've got a midterm or paper just about every week...and everything is just very compact...so if there are athletic-related events and you miss class a lot, you're missing a bigger percentage of the class. It's certainly possible...we've got athletes here...but I'd say it can be more tough.
