I have just recently heard of it. Is this kind of a "if I don't get into med school in the US" thing or what? It doesn't seem like it.

Also, lets say one wants to begin medical school Fall 2008. I understand that application materials will be made available September 2007. I go to a quarter system school. Is there a good chance that the adcoms will also see any grades at all for the 2007-2008 academic year?

heh. well for some, it could be a "backup" plan. In recent years, more and more people are applying because of a true interest in wanting to go. they may see your final year grades...I think you are required to send them at the end if I'm remembering correctly, and you may update your file with grades as you get them each quarter if you wish. For instance, the application is due in November but they don't seem to send applications until January, so you can update your file with at least 2 quarters' grades then before they send. Or if interview season is around March, then you can update with 3 quarters' grades

Yeah, I applied in the fall 2003 and then sent them all my grades from the next year. Plus, I wrote the MCAT in April of 2004 and sent them my scores in June. I was accepted in July and left for Ireland that September.

Before that year of school I had never taken a science course in my life so they definetly look at the new stuff you send them.
