Are people doing this as kind of an "if I dont get into a school in the US" thing or what? Maybe some people just prefer to study in Ireland?

I just recently heard of it.

Also, I don't get the timeline? If one wanted to begin studies in Fall 2009, when do they start the application process?

Atlantic Bridge is legit. A lot of applicants have higher stats than students entering US schools. Check out the stats of students in the Irish/UK forums. RCSI, Trinity, etc. are very excellent medical schools in Ireland that have a stellar reputation all over the world. Going to an Irish medical school isn't easy to get into like a Caribbean school.

Apples and oranges. The Irish med schools exist to train physicians for Ireland. The well-known Caribbean schools are feeder programs to train U.S. physicians. The former does its rotations in Ireland and prepares for Irish licensing; the latter does its rotations in the U.S. and prepares for U.S. licensing.

Don't get me wrong, I lived in Ireland for years and love the place. I'd much sooner live in Ireland for a few years than Greneda. But heading to an Irish medical school with the intention of practicing medicine in the U.S. is going to be more the uphill battle than through Ross or St. G.

Anyway, OP, look in the International forums. This stuff has been discussed over their to death.
