In this thread, Thieme will be giving away one copy of Atlas of Anatomy to one lucky member. Winners for each raffle will be drawn from among the members who post questions about the product or otherwise meaningfully contribute to the discussion.

Complete with exquisite, full-color illustrations by award-winning artists Markus Voll and Karl Wesker, the atlas is organized to lead you step-by-step through each region of the body. Each region opens with the foundational skeletal framework. The subsequent chapters build upon this foundation, adding the muscles, then organs, then vessels, then nerves, and finally presenting topographic anatomy for a comprehensive view. Each unit closes with surface anatomy accompanied by questions that ask the reader to apply knowledge learned for the real-life physical examination of patients.

This atlas provides everything you need in just the right format, making the mastery of human anatomy eminently achievable.

Purchase this book and gain access to WinkingSkull.com PLUS, an online resource that allows you to study and test yourself with anatomy illustrations and exclusive clinical study material.

I noticed that in browsing the TOC, on pg. 626 is the Answers to the Surface anatomy Questions. Are there other questions located at the end of each chapter or is it just for Ch. 23 Surface Anatomy?

I have a pocket version of the Anatomy Atlas, but it isn't as colorful as the text. And the clinical correlations and questions in this text are wonderful. I just scanned through the sample pages, and saw how detailed the pictures and labelings were. I would love to get my hands on a copy of this Atlas to go along with my other textbooks. Thank you.

Is there an online version as well?

What are the dimensions of the text? I was wondering if it is 'textbook' sized or 'coffee table' sized.

Dear SDN members:

Thanks for posting in our forum.

In answer to your question, each unit (e.g., Upper Limb, Thorax, Head & Neck) ends with a chapter on Surface Anatomy. Here you can test whether you've truly integrated everything you've learned into a meaningful understanding. 👍? 👎? The Surface Anatomy pages contain artwork as well as questions. The answers to all the review questions from all the units are found at the back of the book.

Thanks and keep the questions coming!

How extensive are the Head and Neck chapters? Also, does the book include CT and MRI images for review. Thanks.

How many questions are there at the end of the units?

are the questions at the end multiple choice USMLE style? How comprehensive are explanations?

WinkingSkull.com functions as an online study-aid that supplements the Atlas of Anatomy. This online site features interactive testing, and many of the same illustrations that you will find in the test.

I'm not sure what constitutes 'coffee-table' sized, but it has a width of 9 in. and a height of 11 in.

Thanks and keep up the posting!

Would the book be suitable for a reference during clerkships? Also, are there just answers or are there also extensive explanations?

Dear SDN members:

Thanks for all your questions!

The Head and Neck unit is the largest in the book (over 130 pages divided into 10 chapters). Like the other units, it begins with the Bones, then moves to the Muscles, the Nerves, and then the complete Neurovasculature of the region. The following chapters are regionally organized: Orbit & Eye, Nasal Cavity & Nose, Temporal Bone & Ear, Oral Cavity & Pharynx, and Neck. The unit closes, like always, with Surface Anatomy and questions for review.

The unit includes some MRIs and CTs, but you might want to check out our <<Dx-Direct>> series of pocket-sized radiographic case studies. The series currently includes 7 titles: Head and Neck Imaging, Brain Imaging, GI Imaging, Cardiac Imaging, Breast Imaging, Spinal Imaging, and Pediatric Imaging. 5 more books are coming so keep an eye out!

How extensive are the Head and Neck chapters? Also, does the book include CT and MRI images for review. Thanks.

As to the review questions: Each unit contains a handful of questions that help you determine how well you have integrated everything you've learned. The answers at the back of the book are fairly involved. This is not, however, a USMLE review book. It's an atlas for learning and reference.

Hope this helps. Keep the questions coming!

Do the illustrations include live models and/or dissections? I also happy to hear that MRIs and CTs are part of the textbook.

Q1: Would the atlas be suitable for a reference during clerkships? Also, are there just answers or are there also extensive explanations?

Great question, and yes - the ATLAS of ANATOMY is a useful study and reference atlas throughout your medical career. It has many charts and tables listing orgins, insertions, clinical content including radiographs, and of course has over 2000 outstanding illustrations that can be used as a reference while in your clerkship & throughout your career.

I hope this helps, and thank you for your interest.

Best regards

I have the Atlas for general anatomy and musculoskeletal System. How is this book different from the 3 book series?
