I'm starting a trauma elective on July 2nd and have just gotten my hands on an ATLS manual. Has much changed in 10 years? What are the main differences? I'm not going to bother reading this if it's going to be a waste of my time...

I cannot answer your questions specifically.... as I am a new intern that just took the class with doing practically no reading (recieved the book the afternoon before)... and I did just fine. If the ABCDEs and primary vs secondary survery was the norm 10 years ago, I am sure it will be cake for you. Otherwise just read that first chapter or two covering the ABCs. The rest talk about specific managments which you probably know (i.e. no breath sounds on left, pull back the tube... still none... dart or chest tube...etc). Good luck...

I just took the course Thurs/Friday. I'm an incoming resident but they kept saying that for the course DPL is the answer instead of CT or FAST but then all admitted they they hadn't done a DPL in over 8 years. That was the biggest change. Everything else seemed up to date. It has to be taught be trauma surgeons and EM doc so they tell you during class.

Where in FL are you Orlando by any chance?
