Hi guys,
Question on atomic radii... why does it decrease from left to right and bottom to top of the periodic table? I'm just a little confused on teh "WHY"... would rather understand than memorize. thank you!

Atomic radii decreases from L to R because the number of protons (atomic number) is increased.

Atomic radii is the distance FROM the nucleus (composed of neutrons and protons) TO the OUTERMOST valence electrons...soo the more protons you add, the bigger becomes the nucleus and the closer it is to the outermost valence electrons, so the radius decreases.

cuz left to right meaning it has more protons meaning more electrons.
more electrons but it's still at the same energy shell unleass it goes down the periodic table, remember?
since there are more protons and electrons, their force of attraction gets bigger each time they move to the right thus proton(nucleus) pulls the electron thus making it smaller.
