Assuming that you have good grades, top of class, research, externship, you can get in to any OMFS program at any school regardless of where you go for dental school.
But again, ASSUMING.

As mentioned above, it doesn't matter where you go. But make sure you go to dental school to be a dentist. A very small fraction of people go on to become OMFS with an MD.Would it be possible to get into a 6 year oral surgery program after attending ATSU or MOSDOH? Assuming you do the right things like good grades, top of class, research, externships, lift weights would the reputation of these schools be of any hinderance? They are newer schools that don't have a reputation for producing surgeons, i.e. Tennessee. Are there any known graduates from ATSU that are in a program?
If you don't mind me asking, if you're positive you want to go to a 6 years OMS program, why don't you go to a school that has a historically higher rate of specializing? Again, not saying that you can't from ATSU and MOSDOH; but they are pretty expensive from my understanding, so it's not price.

MOSDOH hasn't graduated a class yet.I was told that 5 out of 42 students from MOSDOH's class of 2016 went into some sort of speciality right after graduation; as far as OMS, not sure!
I meant 2017, which will be their first graduating class. This was from a current D2 student there so I dont exactly know how true the info is.MOSDOH hasn't graduated a class yet.

Man, where were you guys a few weeks ago when all of the pre-dents who know better were contradicting everything I said? haha

OK, that makes sense, managing expectations is important. If those schools are realistic options, keep in mind that for a 6 year program you will still need to be admitted to medical school. I understand that it will be different, especially if your dental school performance is top notch. Just keep in mind that your undergraduate transcripts will still be reviewed, and your competition will be fierce.Simply because they are realistic options for me. I have applied to some schools that have a OMS reputation, but if they don't pan out then I would just want to be able to still know I have the option if I put in the work. I totally understand going into dental school to be a dentist and if that were the end result, I would be fine with it. I suppose transferring after your first year could also be an option if reputation was really a big factor.
I'm just trying to say (without judgement and with respect) that if your undergrad performance was not as competitive as that of your peers in dental school, admission to a 6 year OS program would be a challenge.
This does not mean that you will never have a chance of specializing in anything. You may end up with a killer dental GPA and incredible scores (and I hope you do), but like you said, managing expectations is important.
I hope everything works out the way you would like, and you achieve the results you aim for. Good luck!

No weaklings aloud to be an OMFS.I'd like to add that entering dental school with the mindset of "I'll never need to do crown preps/I don't care about restorative dentistry/I'm not going to be a GP" will make your life INCREDIBLY hard when you first start school. You're going to dental school to become a GP. Worry about post-doc programs when you have your foot in the door. But make sure you go to dental school to be a dentist.

I'm a current 4th year at MOSDOH and a member of the first class. I know of at least 3 classmates who have received 10+ interviews for oral surgery residency programs. These students did "the right things," and I expect they will all match somewhere. Several of my other classmates have applied and received interviews in other residency programs such as endo, peds, prosth, gprs, etc. I'd say at least 5 have accepted residencies pre match. Hope this was helpful!
