Hi all I'm trying to decide between OSUCOM in Tulsa and ATSU Mesa, the new school. Both will be O.O.S. for me. Now I am wondering which one to go to. :scared::scared:

Where would you rank OSUCOM among the 26 D.O. schools? Does anyone know if students from OSUCOM have trouble specializing in residency? I want to do surgical cardiology or E.N.T. surgery.

Someone mentioned that surgery is difficult for D.O.'s to get into. Is that only general surgery or all types of surgery?

All advice appreciated! 🙂 🙂

I don't think this will help your decision, but I met the directors of both OMM departments over the weekend at AAO convocation and they were equally people I would be happy to receive an education from. You don't have much to compare to for the Arizona ATSU school since it is brand new and even as a KCOM student I can't give much opinion on it as the curriculum is much different than the one I am a part of.

If you are seriously considering a competitive residency like ENT or invasive cards, I'd go with OSU. They currently have a school linked, fast track ENT residency at the OSU medical center.:luck:

Thanks for the info 👍, but what exactly is a fast track residency? And how does the school itself rank among D.O. schools?

Unless you really, really like ATSU's new curriculum or have a very strong geographical reasons for picking that school, I'd go to OSU.

Also, it sounds like from their description, ATSU's new curriculum is geared towards primary care anyway, making OSU a definitely better choice for ENT or any other specialty.

A fast track residency means basically a linked residency where your first year and internship year are combined(almost all D.O. Residencies will be this way by the time you make it there). OSU also has 2 surgery spots soon to be 3.

As far as ranking goes there are no official ones. But from what I have seen most people put OSU-COM into the top 3 of D.O. Schools. I go there and from what I have seen of other schools I would tend to agree. But this is something that everyone argues about on here a lot to no avail.
