Attempting to defer at Northwestern or UWSOM

Has anyone had first-hand experience with requesting deferrals from Feinberg (Northwestern) or the University of Washington? I've narrowed my school selection to these two, and although I plan to make this decision independent of whether or not either will let me defer, I wanted to start the necessary steps.

I pulled the following from here:

"An applicant may request to defer matriculation into the entering class after acceptance of a Feinberg admission offer. Requests must be submitted in writing to the Admissions Office and are considered on a case-by-case basis."

I know that you can only defer if you have a really good reason to do so. It says so somewhere on the admissions site . "A one-year matriculation deferral of accepted candidates is only granted under exceptional circumstances." That being said, I know of people that have defered before and others that were not able to do so.
