I currently live in California and I would like to go out of state for PT school. I've heard California's licensing exam is harder than other states and PT programs teach you to be able to pass their state's licensing exam. I know there is a new physical therapy licensure compact, but California is not on the list that recognized PT licenses from other states. I was just wondering if this is a foolish decision and if anyone has any advice?

Sounds like someone is spreading some rumors! It's a national licensing exam, everyone takes the same exam. There might be an additional CA jurisprudence exam or something to make sure you know state practice rules, but never heard people sweat over these.

You pass the same NPTE everyone else does, to get a CA license it is a law based exam. Just study CA laws related to PT and you'll be able to get a license there.

agreed with the posts above. NPTE is NATIONAL PT exam, not Californian.

Everything else in your post is correct, but I feel like I need to add that I've heard the CA jurisprudence exam is actually quite challenging. Haven't taken it myself though.

Nope. Nothing is challenging about it. All questions are straight off the act.
