I'll be applying ophtho this year, and doing my aways this summer, but a lot of my past research has been in ortho. I just found out that I have an ortho poster presentation that will be during the middle of the week during an away (in a different state). I think trying to have someone else present the poster would be the best option, especially since the research isn't ophtho and I don't really care about it anymore, but I was wondering what you guys thought. I'm guessing that missing days on my away to do this won't look too great.

If I were your attending I wouldn't look down on this. I would see it as you following through with a previous commitment and being proud of you accomplishment. In addition academic endeavours are academic endeavours regardless of the subject or specialty.

If you don't care if someone else presents like your second author then do that. If you want to present then do it, but stay the minimum amount of time. If you have to pay for it and your flight, I wouldn't go but that's just me...

If you wanna go, I recommend running this scenario by the program coordinator/ person organizing your rotation. Just to confirm that it's not disruptive in any way. Also, stay at the conference the minimum amount of time necessary to get it done. If you wanna go.

Agree w/ everything Zeke said (as usual, LOL) -- would also add that you should offer to (and plan to) come in on weekend days to make up the lost time. Chances are your resident/attending won't make you come in, but I think it looks better if you show cognizance.
