I’m touring a campus (having been accepted after a Skype interview) and wondering about protocol for clothing. Can I get away with “nice” jeans/sneakers? It’s I/O, if that matters. Thanks!

I can't speak for I/O or for the program culture/student dress where you were accepted, but it would be perfectly fine to show up like that to my lab/my program in counseling with a nice top, especially since you'll be doing some walking to see campus. Others may advise differently. Just remember that this is a first in-person impression, so make sure you look sharp even when comfortable and act accordingly as well.

Might depend on location. East tends to be more formal than the West. Also, how snooty the school is. Regardless, you have already been accepted so dress would probably have to be pretty far out there to make too much of a negative impression.

Might be best to ask a grad student.

For my visit, I wore a nice pair of khakis and a tucked in polo and that was probably a little formal.
