So I'm beginning to get some interview invitations and I'm wondering what is the appropriate attire to wear? Do I need to wear a suit? Shirt and tie +/- sweater? I just really don't want to be over- or under- dressed. I'm assuming lab coat is not needed? Someone fill me in! Thanks!

Yes, please wear a suit.

If you came in wearing a lab coat, we'd probably laugh about you as soon as you left. But hey, that is one way for us to remember who you are.

I have a multi-day fellowship interview that involves rounding.

I assume I should bring my lab coat if I'm going to be on the unit. And suit + coat is redundant, never mind what a tool I would feel like rounding in a suit. So does that step it down to more of a nicer business casual, like what I wear every day to rotations, but with more detail paid to jewelry, etc?? I guess I could just e-mail the current fellow and find out what she thinks, think that would be ok?

I think asking the current fellow would be the best option. If it is multi-day, then I would bring both... wear the suit to the office-based interview part, and then switch to the lab coat for the rounding part. Not to mention you can just swap suit jacket for the lab coat when rounding, and hang the suit jacket somewhere in the floor pharmacist's office, for example. That's what I personally would do. 🙂
