hey all. i was just wondering if anyone had any insight into the propper attire for the dinner that is usually held the night before the interview. will shirt and tie suffice, or is this also a suited affair? thanks for any info.

On the 14 interviews I went on (in 2002-2003) no one wore a suit. Very few people, if anyone, wore a tie. I was always a big fan of wearing a sweater over a collared shirt. No jean, no t-shirts - although the residents will sometimes wear them. Anything better than that is fine.

PS - they'll tell you these are informal events just so you can get to know the program, etc. While that is true, if you behave badly (i.e. get too drunk or are otherwise unpleasant company) it can hurt you.
