Haha, thank you all for your responses.
Obviously this forum does not represent all dental students in the nation, but it's still interesting to note some of your reactions.
During my interviews for medical schools it was customary to host out of state interviewees for a night by attending students. During two years of medical school we were notified when someone needed a lodging for interview. Everyone understands the exorbitant cost of flying around to interview. And students try to help out other students. I guess not with you guys.
Regarding hosting a stranger, would a school call someone "sketch" or "dangerous" for an interview?
It's good to know that there are cheap places to stay in NY. I thought everything is expensive over there. If I can find something below $40, that will do. I thought everything was over $100 there.
As you mentioned, Midwestboy, I am looking for a school environment where students help each other out rather than competing and elbowing each other to get ahead. It's not worth the trouble.
Thanks again all of you. And chill out a little. Medicine is in the present mess partly due to that twisted mentality saying "I suffered. Therefore, you should all suffer as well." Such malignancy doesn't help any profession in any way. If we suffered, we should try to change things so that others don't have to suffer the same.
