Hey guys,

Any second or third years that can tell me about Neuro exams at LECOM??? My mom wants to plan a shower for me in April, but there is an exam on the following Monday. There are only a few days in April and May that I could plan with nothing on Monday, but of course, the place I want WILL NOT COMPLY!!! Is this doable, or should I just forget it was ever mentioned???? Help me, please!!!!

Kristen

If Dr. Snow and Dr Esper are still the directors (you could even ask Buck, or Kell if she still does the exams), I would ask to take the exam early. Explain the situation.
If thats a no....find out how many lectures are on that exam. Neuro had a few small exams and one or 2 very large exams (remember each test is not weighted the same). You may have to study like mad before the weekend....and just do your best on the test.
I still recommend asking snow if you can take it early on fri and leave for the weekend.

I am sure neuro is much different now than when I took it. First off, our neuro was run by Dr. Purcell, he is no longer there. From that I understand, the now MS2's had Dr. Richards for lectures, we had the guy for about two lectures in our MS2 year, can't tell you much about him.

about time off, I asked to be excused fora test once for medical reasons and from what I recall you have to ask Dr. Kell first, and then she runs the idea by the course director. If he/she okaays the idea, they meet with you and arrange when you can make up

Esper and Richards are the course directors....

So how are systems compared to core? Better? Worse?

Congratulations Kristen! So when did it happen.. Christmas/eve? I'll be checking out that new bling bling when we get back 😀

First off, congratulations on getting engaged! (I am assuming that is what the shower is for 🙂 )

I honestly wouldn't worry about your shower being that weekend. I know neuro is probably different now, but when we had it, we had about 5 exams and a ton of points to work with, so one exam may not hurt you. If it is a large exam, you may have to study like mad during the week, but I don't think taking one weekend will be a big deal. Just study as hard as you can and do your best. You can make it up on other exams if you wouldn't do as well as you would like.

Again, congrats!

Thanks, Russ!!! Ask me what I've done over my Christmas break... wait, I'll tell you... I'm planning a wedding for July 3!!! OH MY GOD!!!! Thanks, DOtobe, and yes, the shower will be for my wedding!!! HORRAY!!!! From what I saw, it looks as though the test might have 30 lectures covered. I don't know, I'm SOOOO confused!! But thanks for all the input. I think that I'll talk to Drs Kell and Esper and see what they say. Worst they can say is that I can't get married, right?!?

CONGRATS!!!

Anyone have any thoughts on how to gear up for this upcoming "breakless" semester. We have ONE 3 day weekend because Buck decided to actually give us good friday off, but other than that we don't have anything off or the one day off we have we have an exam the next day.

What, we weren't absolutely miserable enough first semester for him?

did they take away MLK Day and Presidents day too?
Im glad they took away spring break....winter break used to be just a week.

No we still have those 2 days off...

🙂
Dostortobee,
If you are MS1.5 wouldn't that make you Class of 2006?
I'm confused.

Second semester is really not that bad. Worry about finishing up core since that seems to be where most people have problems. They come back from Winter break and still have to bring that grade up to passing with only a few tests left. Derm is not as bad as people make it out to be. It's a short system, so just study hard for the two exams...and know the pics in the Derm atlas. Musculoskeletal I felt was an easy system. Also, neuro is not as bad as people make it out to be and the course directors work with people having trouble to make sure they pass. Snow is no longer one of the course directors, so you may want to watch out for how wacky Richards runs things.

As for blowing off neuro tests, it depends when you're talking about. From what I remember, a lot of the points are in the beginning of the system. It's important to get the basics down in order to apply them to the clinical findings of a neuro exam. Esper is an excellent teacher, but some of his questions can be tough. Don't stress too much. No test in Neuro should truly be blown off, especially since it's a big board topic.

Good luck MSI's

Actually we get separate grades for Core II...GRR...

Don't blow off a neuro.
The first two exams are hard.
Everyone will pass.
But not studying as hard for an exam could be the difference between a "B" or "C"

Good luck.
