Hey guys....just in a bit of a dilemma. AUC or SGU? Which of the two would have better prep for USMLE? I know AUC has better living conditions, and also had a 85% pass rate for first time USMLE test-takers in 2006, and a decent residency match list this past year.

Ravi, it's been discussed ad nauseum here and on VMD. If you do a search you'll come up with thousands of these threads. But this one is a recent thread from SGU forum on VMD, and I think it answers most, if not all of your questions.

Good Luck

It comes down to personal choice because there is no significant difference in the results.

Well, SGU costs about $30k-$50k more but it is not a huge difference.

Thanks for all your help guys...I wasn't too familiar with ValueMD at the time I posted

AUC's pass rate has fluctuated over the years, I checked with one of the Basic Science professors who listed the school's USMLE pass rate, a couple of times it was low as 60 percent. I would pick SGU over AUC.

You love to come around and make up stuff. No wonder you can't even get into a DO school.

AUC makes you take exams before allowing you to sit for the USMLE, so it is nearly impossible for there to be a 60% pass rate when you have to pass it before you sit for it.....lol....

I said that a couple of times AUC's pass rate on the USMLE was only 60 percent. SGU is the only school in the Caribbean that truly has a high pass rate on the exam. Ross claims 90 percent but doesn't mention that a lot of people fail out before they even get to that point. I have friend who is in the fourth semester at AUC, and she said if given the choice between SGU and AUC, she would pick SGU hands down.

Whatever makes you feel better about not being accepted to US MD/DO schools, bro.

I would pick SGU because it seems like more PDs have heard of SGU. And the education is good. But I haven't gone to AUC so I am biased.

That is exactly my sentiment, SGU is the best Caribbean medical school out there.

there is really not much difference--it is about personal perference.

AUC: smaller class size, nicer island

SGU: more recog, larger class size

When applying for residency...AUC or SGU--you'll be known as a carribean school. Just do well on your boards (which is all depedent on YOU).
