Audiologists Do Not Have to Comply with Red Flags Rule

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

At the end of the day protected health information is protected health information whether it be an audiogram or a pap smear result. In the courtroom it's not going to matter what the protected health information is, only if it was breached or not and if the holding entity is at fault for the breach.

This is something far too many offices neglect. I remember one office I helped with a hearing aid patient and they had no password protected log-ins to their computers and they had their firewalls off on their front office scheduling computer!!!! That's a free meal ticket to a wealth of SSN's, DOB's, insurance policies, bank accounts and credit card number!

Our field needs to do a better job of acting like medical professionals, then and only then, do they have any ground to stand on when it comes to wanting to be accepted as a medical professional.

Sorry end rant.
