Anyone out there do an away rotation in November? I'm doing one in July and one in August, but I was thinking of doing an audition rotation in November to a program I may want to go to. Is November a more interview heavy month than December and January? I searched other threads, but none of them pertained to EM.

Thanks for the help.

Quite a few interviews are conducted in november. IMO nov is probably a little late for audition if you want an SLOR especially. Why do you need more then 2? Why not do one in sept or oct if you really want to?

November isn't at all too late for an audition rotation. Anytime before they finalize their list is fine. Most places won't do that until Feb at least. I know lots of people who did auditions as late an Jan. However, if you need a SLOR November will be right on the edge of too late.

November is a very interview heavy month though. Scheduling all your interviews will be tough, and you don't want to be missing a ton of days on an audition rotation if you can avoid it. Nov-December were my months with by far the most interviews. November was my biggest month. However, you have flexibility in your scheduling, and you can work it out if you are creative.

I did an auditions in August, October, November and one from mid-december to mid january. Ended up matching at the last one. I don't think November is a bad month to rotate, and I think they're all equally heavy interview months from November to January. Good luck.

My schedule looks like this

July: away
August: away
September: required school elective which is impossible to switch out of
October: step 2 study
November:?

Anyway, I was just offered an away at a program I could see myself ending up at, but August is filled, they don't offer July (september is open, but I have required elective). I didn't plan on doing a third, but I really wanted to rotate there and November is really the earliest I could. I figured I should know my **** by then after having done two and just studied for step 2, but I was worried that taking time off for interviews might cause me not to shine.

I have pretty much the same schedule for what it's worth..

If you are going to do an away, do not ask for any time off for interviews.
Either schedule them around your shifts, or just do them in Dec/Jan.
The point of an away, is to shine like the greatest student ever.
Asking for a bunch of days off just makes you seem like a PIA.
Won't help you there or anywhere else.

I feel like 3 is a lot of away rotations, if you are also doing a home EM month. 4 total is probably more than you need. November is later in terms of getting a SLOR, but prob okay if you just want that program to get to know you. Also you can choose to interview Dec-Feb, not do dates in November so you don't have to miss shifts.

You might want to see if there is a less intense way to spend time at that program instead of doing a 3rd away. Is there a tox rotation? EMS? Emergency Radiology elective? There might options that let you spend some time in the department and meet people but are more flexible in terms of interviews.
