Is it a bad idea to schedule an audition rotation over christmas/new years? Do you get less time with the residents/attendings? Do they let you go home for a few days to see your family? Does it matter at all?

The attending is more likely to be off service for part of the month. However this is also a time for you to shine. You can be extra helpful. You can go out of your way to be helpful to everyone on the team at a time when some of them really want to be home eating Christmas cookies. Recall, also, that plenty of us are not Christian and actually do not celebrate Christmas. Some of us are Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, or Buddhist.

I'd avoid it because when the holiday schedule starts, the name of the game is get in and get out. Once the work is done, they might be able to sign out and leave the hospital. It's been my experience that everyone just works a little faster to get things done to get out of dodge.

You might also have different faculty rotate in and out, as well as residents.

Overall, not a good idea if you can avoid it (for a sub-I)
