Hi guys,

I will be completing my AADASA application late August and I'm writing the DAT exam on August 31st, do you think this is too late? do I still have good chances for getting interviews?

I would really appreciate your help,
Thanks

No, it's not too late, but it's not early. As long as you do decently and you have a decent GPA, you still stand a very good chance of getting interviews, just more likely that you may not get a Dec 1st acceptance. This from the guy who took the DAT November 13th, AADSAS Nov 17th, and I'm telling everyone right here not to follow my example because although I got in, I definitely learned my lesson the hard way.

im taking my DAT sept 25th. i was set to take it aug 28th but i just will not be ready. as long as youre going into it prepared, you will be fine. i know people who took it earlier (may/june/even july) but werent fully prepared and arent happy with their scores and have to re-take it anyway.

yes, its really late and u wont have a chance! last year i took my DATs on the end of july, i got a 22, 23 on AA& Ts. I did my aadsas afterwards and requested my DAt scores to be sent out really late. My app was getting reviewed by the end of october which is already late. All the schools had filled out their seats pretty early! so i did not even an interview. This year i did everything in june, and have received a couple of interviews already! i asked the schools why i did not get in last year?, and all of them said that i did my stuff late...it takes a long time for aadsas and all the schools to process ur app and 2ndaries and by the time they wanna review yours, there are no empty seats left ,,so good luck

As long as you don't do the other mistakes listed above, such as not have you application completed before (I also did this mistake sadly), and not instantly request your scores to be sent out, you should be fine. Schools give out about 66% of their seats in acceptances on Dec. 1st, but most will only fill 40-50% of their seats because if you get one acceptance on Dec 1st, there's a very good chance you got more than one. So clearly the schools need to keep evaluating applications. Like I said before, all of my interviews were in February, and my scores allowed me to get my foot in the door and get a number of acceptances.

I'm surprised you didn't get more interviews considering the number of schools you applied to. I'm applying to many as well...

I would say August 31st is sorta late...it takes about 3 weeks for schools to get the scores so your app will be complete at the end of September. However, some schools are already sending out interview invatations. Also some schools that begin looking through apps in September will fill up quick.

Now September 25th is late for me..... factor in 3 weeks for schools to get the scores and a week for the schools to process everything.... and your app will be in the adcoms' hands at the middle/end of October.
If I were you I would have taken it Aug 28th or only moved it a couple weeks later. At that point in the cycle, I would say a month earlier app is better then a point or 2 in a section since many schools will be almost filled up and may not even take a serious look at your app. But that just my 2cents and I may be completely wrong.

This seems like a good thread in which to post my question... seems like lots of good advice in here...

I've already sent in my app with my very mediocre scores from May.

I'm re-taking the DAT, and am in the process of re-scheduling it now.

Was thinking about re-scheduling it for Sept. 4th or the following week - let's say the 9th.

Is the 9th too late, since they should already have my app (mailed July 24th)?

Peerless - how were your scores after you retook the DAT?? Must've been impressive!

I will be taking the DAT sept 18th

My apps were sent out in first mailing with (some) schools receiving my (out-of-date) july 06 scores. I received an interview from nova thus far. I do not think that sept 18th is so late as some schools say they receive your OFFICIAL scores electronically within a few days from the test date. But again, some schools will look at your app without newest scores and some will not. I would call each school and see if your test date is 'late' in their minds.

I jumped to a 20 from a 17. Check out my predent file if you wanna know my stuff. I can't say it's THAT impressive. I think my score is a good score, but not TOO impressive. But remember, it's the overall package that matters. I know I have a few really strong letters, a decent personal statement, and a crap load of extra curricula activities and volunteering experiences.

I'm in sort of the same boat as some of the posters here. I am planning on taking the DAT in late September. I emailed a bunch of schools, and every single one of them said to apply before. If they have everything else and are just waiting on the DAT scores, they said you can fax them the scores that same day so they get them immediately rather than waiting for 2 weeks or longer.

So I would suggest faxing the scores to expedite the process if your application is already in.

And no matter how late you apply, there is always a chance. The worst that can happen is that you apply real early next year.

Depends on if you will use that extra time to study... if you will go the 9th but if you feel like you will start to hit a wall then go the 4th. The 4th would be the day to get your app out earlier (just barely), but that week might make a difference in terms of better scores.
Moving a month back is bad to me, but only moving a week seems negligable.
