does taking the aug mcat put me at a disadvantage for DO schools? im applying to touro and western.

also, how long are my mcat scores good for?

i took the mcat 2 years ago and scored a 7/10/9. i am planning to take it again this august. do you think i can use my previous scores so that schools don't hold my application until they get my aug scores?

i was in a similar situation; i called up western and told them my previous score and they said i should have my app processed without waiting for the aug results; and i got an interview and was accepted by halloween

i would call them and ask and they'll advise you accordingly

depending on how good your score is, it might be better to wait or to just go ahead and turn it in; and by the time you get your aug results back it might give you the extra push you need to get an interview if you didn't get one already

I think you should go ahead and apply. Your MCAT of 26 is good for DO schoolsand seems to be near the average of TUCOM, which was 26.3 for the Class of 2007. It was 27 for the Class of 2006. I don't know about Western though. I think you should look into other schools such as CCOM and KCOM if you want to go outside CA. Also, if your cum GPA and sci GPA are good to there is no reason why you shouldn't try. Just make sure that your overall app is good and your personal statements rock. Be sure that your secondary essays are awesome also and you really shouldn't have a problem.

I say go for it and if you want to take the aug MCAT, then do so but send you app in. If you want to send your second set of MCAT scores in later, then do so too.

thanks for your replies...

my stats are: 3.85 gpa from uc berkeley, 7/10/9 mcat, phlebotomist, emt, 4 yrs research, 2 years volunteer at hospital.

my application should be competitive, but if schools wait till they get my aug mcat scores, i will be late in the game and may be denied admission.

so im debating...should i mark on my application that i am taking the aug mcat?

I don't know how that works...So, if you mark it, then would AACOMAS not send your app out to schools until they get the results? Check with them via email or phone...

IMO, you could send out your app with your current scores and GPA...BTW, your cum GPA is great, what is your sci GPA; I'm assuming just as great...and then decide to take the aug MCAT...

I know of some people who have sent out their app to AACOMAS before they decided to retake the MCAT, as they were unsure of wether or not to take it again, and it all worked out fine. Either way, you are competitive.

Just to let you know, my AACOMAS wasn't sent to schools until Dec and I sent in my secondaries at the end of Jan. I didn't interview until mid-March and April and I was accepted to 2 schools.

Good luck! You'll be fine...just rock the PS and secondary essays...Your goal with the app is to get an interview. Once you get that, your goal is to get accepted!

whatever anyone tells you..DON'T LISTEN IF THEY SAY ANYTHING BAD ABOUT AUGUST MCAT! I am proof..I heard rumors..but decided that taking the August MCAT was the best for me. What I strongly suggest is to start your AACOMAS now so that it is done and ready for when you decide to send it. Now, what I did was what a lot of people consider risky..I sent my AACOMAS in before I received my scores from the MCAT in October. However, all of my materials were in and ready and the schools were awaiting only my MCAT scores. In addition, I began to receive interviews and secondaries immediately ( I recall my first interview being in the beginning of November, a month after scores were received). I know a lot of people say August MCAT holds you back, but as long as you do not procrastinate you will be fine...I know many people who waited until scores were in and then sent everything, and they were fine as well. Do what you think is best..you will get in no matter which month you took MCATs in if your stats are good (which to me, it seems like they are..your MCAT is higher than the average mcat for most DO schools from what I know) 👍

SDNStud your stats are good to go. Most schools accept MCAT scores that are no more than 3 years old. I'd ask just in case though. If you ask me you dont even have to take the MCAT again just send everything in now and chill out. You should be fine. You have the grades, MCAT and of course the extra curriculars. Good luck man. Just my 0.02. 😎

As box29 said, the MCAT average for TUCOM was a 26.3. The average for COMP for the class of 2007 was a 27. Thus your MCAT is average for acceptances. What will help you is if you apply early.
