So I want to try to take the MCAT in August of 2014 between my Jr and Sr year. I want to do this so that I have the entire summer, early may - early August, to study and so that I don't have to worry about my classes in school. My worry though is that it might be too late to apply for a spot for fall 2015. But is it still possible? I know the MCATs take weeks to be graded and I don't want to apply too late. SO whats my best option? And is that even enough time to study for it? I'm not the best standardize test taker btw

As far as it being too late, I think it depends what you get on the MCAT. I took mine in July, got my score back in august (31Q) and got my interview invites the same week I got my score back. The key for me was to have everything else submitted and to "only" be waiting for the updated MCAT score. I don'tknow if it is possible if you don't yet have any score... I had a prior 27 that I wanted to improve upon.

As far as study time, Early May-Early august may not be enough time if that's the only time you spend studying. I think your best bet is to start studying now in your spare time to try and get through some of the material, so that when you get to May you're just doing a more intensive review and can focus on practice tests.

Have you taken any practice tests to get a baseline score? Do you have a plan? Kaplan, TPR, etc? I did Kaplan, but I think just having the Kaplan books and online material would have been enough even without the classroom time.


The biggest advice I can give you from my personal experience is not to discount the verbal section. If you aren't a natural at comprehensive reading, then it may surprise you, but we're all different.

If Early may to August is your study time, that is 3 whole months. That is more than enough, especially if that's all your doing.

I'm on the same boat! Even with the standardized test taking bit. I really want to do it before the change in 15'...It'll be tough though, I decided on medicine this year so I'll be just done with all my pre reqs the same year that I take the MCATs..

My school finished around May 15. Study during second semester, then study hard for a month after finishing, then take it.

The MCAT isn't so hard as to require 3 months of devoted study time to do well.

I'm on the same boat! Even with the standardized test taking bit. I really want to do it before the change in 15'...It'll be tough though, I decided on medicine this year so I'll be just done with all my pre reqs the same year that I take the MCATs..

Aren't they just going to add a psychology section to it?
