Just wondering if I would be ready for the August 2007 MCAT. I am currently a sophomore, here are the courses I have (or will have after Spring 2007)...

1 year Gen Bio
1 year Gen Chem
1 year Orgo
1 semester physics

I realize most people take the MCAT the year they apply, however I feel I would have a much easier time studying over the summer rather than over the spring semester. The only class I wouldn't have in time for the MCAT would be a second semester of physics. Should I try and squeeze in physics II before this time, or just delay taking the MCAT until after my junoir year?

I would def. delay the MCAT until all of the coursework that will touched on in it will be completed. Hands down. That thing is going to be beastly enough without trying to learn brand new material for it that could otherwise be a review. You have time : )

Personally I think it might be better for you to take it in the summer, especially if you do a summer review course. Second semester physics is like 2 days of materials on review at least IMO.

I am also taking it in summer 07 after my sophomore year for the same reason. I also suggest you take it in the summer so you don't have to study during school, just take a review course for the second semester of physics as I am sure it will tell you what to study for the mcat.

I would start studying for Physics II early and do it little by little with some repetition to really hammer it into your brain since you won't have had it as a full course yet. My August MCAT form was heavy on Physics II stuff, and if I had just skimmed/reviewed without having had the actual course, I probably would not have scored so well on the PS.

Of course, it all depends on what kind of learner you are.

I would hold off on writing the test until you've completed all of your pre-requisites. Physics II is important for the MCAT. This is a good thing though - it'll give you time to take a couple more Biology classes - Genetics, Physiology, ... Be prepared for the MCAT, so that you've only got to write it once.

i think that u will do better if u complete all the pre-req coursework before taking the test..esp. physix 2. altho, if you have a good physix background from high skool...u might be able to study on your own/take the review course and be just fine for the physical section. the amount of physix 2 on the test really depends on ur test form...in april '06, my test had a whole lotta physix 2 on it (like circuits, electromagnetism..etc.) but in aug '06, my test was mostly complicated newtonian stuff with some sound material. IMHO, i think u'll feel better prepared for the test if u take physix 2 before taking the test...and u'll be more confident and confidence is soooo important when going in to take this beast. since the test is offered so many times starting 2007...may be u could take the test in jan. 2008 after studying for it over winter break.

Why not take the Jan. 2008 administration but begin your studying in the summer. That way you could fit in the second Physics but still have all the advantage of the summer to study.

You are exactly right. Not only is it easier to study over the summer, it is also advantageous. Taking the MCAT over the summer is less stressful and you will feel much better during the semester because you have taken care of it. Let me tell you, I took the August 2006 MCAT and I am sitting in my biochem class listening to all the people talking about their KAPLAN MCAT class and how they are studying for it. There is nothing worse than having to worry about the MCAT during the school year. All you will have to worry about is choosing the schools and writing the personal statement.

Don't worry about Physics II. You just need a basic understanding of electromagnetism/optics/sound. All of this can be learned from the MCAT science review books. I'm sure that you can figure this stuff out on your own. Once again, its basic understanding.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but would it be okay to take Orgo III... (I'm on the quarter system so i have 1 2 3 orgo = orogo 1 & 2 on the semester system) while studying for the mcat? I would finish orgo III about 2-3 weeks before the mcat
there isn't suppose to be that much orgo on the mcat so i think you'll be ok.

let me also add that if you're totally fine with all your friends going to the beach and hanging out while you're stuck indoors studying then yes go for it.
