Hi
I am currently a Junior in college, I know everyone on here thinks I should take the mcat next spring but would be too difficult to take it n august? I need to relearn all of chem., and I just started orgo (classes) last week. I would like to apply the fall that would follow next year?s august MCAT ? enter med school in the fall of 2005. Is there no way I can take the MCAT in august and still make it into the application cycle. Also I will be getting staright A?s for the next 40 credit hours and even then my gpa will only be a 3.5 by next fall. Its all because of my 1st horrible semester ? I cant even retake the courses I did poorly in !!
?sorry I deviated?so can I apply in time if I take the august mcat?..will I be scored harder with the retakes..or is that a rumour ? and if anyone has done what I am proposing to do would they please tell me their story. Thanks in advance.

Taking the August MCAT is definitely not the kiss of death that some would make it out to be. Admittedly it does put you at somewhat of a disadvantage at schools with rolling admissions. But if you can manage to have everything in really early -- AMCAS, transcripts, LOR's secondaries, pics, $$ and whatever else they ask for -- so that your files are just waiting on your MCAT to go to review, then it is possible, given a fairly strong application and decent MCAT scores, to do well in the process. I did a couple of years ago, despite having to threaten to sue AMCAS to get my application processed in a timely manner. I would say it can even work to your advantage if taking the August MCAT allows you more time to prepare and do your best on it. There's really no rush. Lots of people even take time off after college, and schools seem to like that. Btw, a 3.5 with decent MCAT will be fine stats, given strong EC's, clinical/volunteer exp, and kick-ass essays. Best of luck to you! 🙂
