Ok so everyone is telling me... u should have applied with ur April score in June instead of waiting for August to retake the damned MCAT and be a late applicant... :scared: but its too late now... so are all of us late-applicants-August-MCATers doomed to have a far FAR smaller chance at interviews if our scores don't improve significantly?

I submited my AMCAS a couple of weeks ago and I am already doing a ton of 2ndaries but no UCs at all... (which is what I am hoping for)

Is anyone else stuck in the same horrible August-MCAT situation?? 🙁
Please make me feel better!!

I was an August MCATer and ended up at UCSF. Fear not.

I was an august MCATer as well.. can I end up at UCSF also?

If it were only up to me....

if you have a strong app, being an august mcater is almost a non issue.

EXACTLY, dont worry. Just make sure you get in all the paperwork as soon as possible. I took the August MCAT last year and didn't get any interviews until the Spring, that freaked me out a little but I ended up with 4 acceptances, so you really do still have a chance. Good luck!

feelin a lil better... well back to my secondaries 😛

The problem is that I have already spent over $1000 dollars on applications and I don't have any clue what my MCAT score is going to be like. I felt great going into the test, and crappy walking out.

Everything about my application is as good as I could ever hope for, but not knowing my MCAT SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just give me a 34 and I will be happy.

Does taking the MCAT in August put you at a disadvantage compared to those who have taken it in April? Probably. I took the test in August of the year I applied and I am happy with my results, albeit I waited for those results after some of my friends had been granted acceptances. I considered myself a "strong" applicant, but looking at all of my classmates, I don't think that any "weak" applicants make it in regardless of when they took the test. Basically, if your stats look anything like the average stats of schools you are applying to and you are interesting enough to hold a thirty mintue conversation with an interviewer, then you have about as good a chance as anyone else. Maybe taking the test earlier gives each school more time to pick up and review your application, increasing the posibility that someone will offer you an interview, but there are a million other things to take into consideration, such as how well you will fit in (or they think you'll fit in) with the crowd and atmosphere of each particular school.

To reiterate, just keep in mind that there are so many things that factor into the interview/acceptance equation and that many of them are out of your control. It is not worth worrying about. This could be your last free year before you start your career, so enjoy your interviews (I regret stressing out over some of them) and have fun!

I stressed out a little last year, and it usually wasn't worth it
If you're going to, the time to start stressing is June or July
Good Luck
