Hi! My letters finally arrived at Wayne State yesterday, and I called today to check on my status, and they said they have put me on hold for a possible interview later in the season. What does this mean? Is there still a good chance I'll get an interview or is it that black hole where you just sit there and they never contact you again.

Wayne does have rolling admissions and their first round of acceptances is coming out on Oct. 22. My friend also applied there and was complete about a week and a half before me and got an interview on Oct. 4. Is it just cause I'm a tad bit late for the first round of acceptances and don't have another interview date after Oct. 4? I'm freakin' out! Any insight to those who may know would be much appreciated.

It probably doesn't have a lot to do with when your application came in.

What this status means is you are not bad enough to reject, but you are kind of on the fence. The school wants to take a look at some more applicants (to see what this year's pool is like) before they take any further action on your application. You could be sitting in this state for a long time or they may reject you or offer you an invite...it is really hard to say. If you REALLY want to go there, you might want to send them some kind of letter of intent/interest.

Yea, I don't really know. I'm kinda bummed, but I'm kinda anxious now, too. I just called back and the lady said the Dean only likes to interview those with at least 10's in each section for their first set of interviews, or those that have really high MCAT's overall. She said those placed on hold have a very high probability of being interviewed in a month or two. She also said the Dean likes to interview groups of people with similar MCATs so they are on a more level playing field. Whatever that all means...

I don't know about that. I interviewed really early last year and got accepted on the first acceptance date and had a section I didn't get a 10 in.

Either way, it is still way too early to be worried. SDN has a way of making everyone freak out, especially when you see how many interviews other people have. Come Feb. and you still don't have an interview date, then take action by calling and writing letters.

Hey, the exact same thing happened to me-I just figured it was my average stats.
Thanks for posting this information-I was too chicken to ask them what it meant. You have cheered me up, thanks! 👍

Yea but overall you must have been strong applicant. Maybe your avg was high, or you have advanced degree or you have some extensive research experience. But there had to have been compensation.

My MCAT wasn't exceptional. However, I had a 4.0, worked in a nursing home, and had good research.
