I really like everyone's pictures and user names and want to know why you picked them/what the significance is to you.🙂
Sheeprl-I own sheep and plan on becoming a ruminant veterinarian (specializing in sheep), also what my license plate says.
The picture is of twin ewe-lambs born in February

Kiki1983: Well Kiki has been my nickname since I was a baby (my older sister, who is only 13 months older than me, could not pronounce my real name which is Kristin)... and 1983 is the year I was born.

My avatar is a picture of my cat Princeton, smelling/nibbling 2 roses on the kitchen counter. This is one of my favorite pictures of him.

If only the avatar could be bigger, so I could have a picture of my menagerie: 2 family boxers (blitz and ginger), a pit/chow mix (Mugzy) with my boyfriend, and 4 cats (Harvard, Princeton, Sawyer, and Freckles)...when I go to vet school, I'm taking Harvard and Princeton with me (I did not attend either school), and if the boy manages to find work where I move, my Mugzy will get to be with me too!

Mine is super uncreative and lame. I joined thinking I would just be a lurker and tried to pick a super anonymous name. The laptop I was using was an IBM ThinkPad 40 ... i.e. tpad40...lame, right? My avatar is a little dummy foal we had at work 🙁.

Username - pretty self-explanatory, methinks 🙂 Although...a pre-med friend of mine came up to me last year and we had the following conversation:

Her: Who's Morbust?
Me: What?
Her: DV Morbust. An author or something?
Me: What?
Her: Morbust!
Me: *narrowed eyes of confusion*
Her: On SDN! Your screenname!
Me: DVM...or...Bust?
Her: Oooooooh...

Still cracks me up.

Current avatar is Sirius, our BC mix, chomping on Bone, his ex-favorite toy. Bone had to be laid to rest a couple months ago, so this avatar is in commemoration. New Bone was not an acceptable substitute - he has since moved on to ... drumroll please...tennis balls! For the first time in his life. We got this guy when he was a year and a half old, and he's now 5. All that time without tennis balls. He used to cower if you so much as raised your arm above your head - now he'll jump for tennis balls flying through the air.

So proud of him I am.

LOL tpad40, this whole time I thought the foal was real!

So, my avatar was my little man Prince who was euth last Aug...still get alittle choked up about it. He drove cross country w/ me from CA to Philly and was all the family I had when I first moved out here. He had a hemoabd, probably from a mass on his spleen and went downhill pretty quick, w/in a weeks time. The username is completely unrelated to anything I just mentioned...if you have kids you prob heard of the shoes "Robeez" unusual name for shoes, kinda just stuck in my head.

LOL tpad40, this whole time I thought the foal was real!

Lol, it IS a real foal 😉 Just a really sick foal! "Dummy Foal" is just the short-cut to saying a foal suffering from Neonatal Maladjustment Syndrome or Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy. But I can see how that sounded weird!

DVMorBust - I am not sure how to explain this but all of this time I thought your avatar was an xray of a horse while biting an apple (or a photoshop-created xray). I am clearly insane. After staring at it I can finally see the dog and now I have no idea how I thought it was an xray for this long...weird!!!

I'm glad we are having this thread!

Not insane! If I go cross-eyed I can kinda see it, too. Actually, you're the 3rd person to not understand what my avatar is ... maybe it needs changing.

LOL tpad40, this whole time I thought the foal was real!

lol. it is real, i'm sure. "dummy" foal is a term usually used for foals born after a prolonged period of hypoxia. they have trouble acting normal (stick their tongues out, pretend-suckle on anything, or worse, can barely/cannot get around) and are termed "dummies."

mine is a combo of my name and my horse's name. Em + Io = Emio

The screen name is a dual one: I was once bitten by a brown recluse spider (and still have the nasty remnants of it on/in my leg almost 5 years later to show for it), and, on the more corny side of things, once I was bitten by the veterinary medicine bug, I never let it go.

The avatar is probably a temporary one that I just picked because I have a deep love for vintage pin-up type pictures and because it incorporates the biting LOL.

I always thought it came from the 'once bitten, twice shy' idiom. I guess it could in regards to the spider...

Some of you already get it...but Pomona is the college I attended for undergrad (not Cal Poly).

My current avatar is one of my rats, Simba, kissing me. She's no longer with us...but was truly one of the best rats I've ever encountered!

My previous avatar (ironically just changed it yesterday) was a caricature of a cat sitting on a toilet reading a newspaper. That caricature appeared in my college magazine in an article that featured alum giving tips on how to save money. Despite the fact that I provided a lot of tips that were more normal ways to save money, the magazine decided that me teaching my cat to use the toilet was a better story. 🙄

So yes...I have rats that are "litter" trained and a cat that uses the toilet.

LOL That's likely where I heard it from originally, although I've only ever heard "once bitten..." used for some reason. I don't think I would have picked it without the spider's help, but I would rather have gone without it. It's a neat sideshow thing for parties, anyway. 😛

As a funny side note, I'm taking a course in the evolution of Dracula as a character and am on a break from writing a paper about two of the movies right now. That's rather fitting for the name, as well, although I picked the name before I signed up for the class lol.

Agent Orange is my cat's name. I adopted him from a client that had named him Mr. Orange, but I thought that was lame.

Obviously, he's orange.

The screen name is pretty unoriginal...it is the one I've been using for almost everything since I can remember (AIM/YouTube/Flickr/etc...).

I derived it from the following:
1.) I like to kayak... (kayak)
2.) I am male........ (man)
3.) My favorite #....(28)

I know...original.

The pic is one I took while SCUBA Diving in Cozumel Mexico - just a giant piece of Brain Coral! Probably my favorite underwater pic that I've taken..

So mine's pretty uncreative. Gee Qued (GQ'ed like the magazine) is the name of one of the horses I showed at the world championships with (and the picture is of him)

BR549 is the nickname my Dad gave me. He passed away last year, so no one really calls me that anymore.🙁 Side-note: I wished he had lived to see me get into vet-school. Sure do miss him!

The avatar is a picture of my baby, "Gracie" (Timneh Grey parrot) with one of my reef-aquariums in the background.

1 Vista- My 2y/o doberman
1 Grey- My 2y/o grey cat
The loves of my life that travel the country with me on my adventures.. the only support system through this application hell I put myself through

Nano = my Corgi's name
99 = the year he was born

OnceBitten, your username/avatar combo made me think of Twilight. Wait, is my fangirl showing? 🙄

My username is basically random! I like tigers, obv, but I was looking for an email at Yahoo! one day when I was like... 13... and I tried twotigers, threetigers... so on... until I got to twelve. Now I like it because it has twelve letters, and it's neat. 🙂

We had a thread like this back when I first joined, but it's old enough that I think I'll let it be without making a link. Besides, a lot of the folks who posted there aren't active anymore... which is depressing. 🙁

Oh, and... that's my Corgi. Lol. Eye not photoshopped. In fact, I'm too poor to own photoshop. 😉

Mine is one I've used before for other usernames - trocar (an embalming tool because I used to be a funeral director) and my name.

My avatar is my doberman puppy, Skwisgaar, back when he was tiny and cute. (He's almost a year and a half now. I still refer to him as my puppy.)

My username is a semi-phonetic spelling of my name "Rachael"....no cool story/explanation.

My avatar is Thelonious one of our basset hounds...he hates camera flashes so that's why he's making that squishy face.

Wow, twelvetigers, we've been on these forums for far too long......Yep, I remember that thread since at that time I had a picture of my fav baboon from the nursery. So I posted on that thread back then, but, I'll go ahead and post on this one as well.

Handle name:
rachroo= nickname from my dad since I was a little kid, alternate/long form is Rachel roo
rach= short for my name, Rachel
roo= name of the baby kangaroo in Winnie the Pooh, named roo

Avatar:
my Siberian Husky posing for a quick picture before she continued to play in the snow 🙂

EDIT: I found the link for the old thread! http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=475431

LOL lol lol, ok I'm an idiot and obviously lack experience in the the equine dept..too funny though! 😀
And I also thought DVMorBust avatar was an xray...I stared at it for the longest time before I could see your dog, that bright flash was deceiving!

yeah, it was definitely a 'black dog + accidental flash' moment. But it was too cute to toss. Now I'm all self-conscious...arg! I'll have to change it later tonight.

Well, my screen name is obvious. I like small animal work, but I really love farming, the country, and large animals. I love the autonomy that comes with doing large animal farm calls. And I can take my dog with me! Also, I'd really like to dedicate myself to improving conditions for our food animals.

I don't have a picture yet b/c I don't know how to add one. I have never even sent a pic in an email. I have a scanner, but I'm sure I'd end up with a pic that takes up the whole screen or one that's way too small. Sigh. Someday I'll figure it out. Guess I've reached that age where technology just goes too fast for me. 😕

Hey Jerseygirl,

Um...I have whatever software came with my HP deskjet/scanner, and I have the software for my cybershot digi camera. I know I can scan a photo into my computer pretty easily, but I presume I would then have to resize it for SDN. What size do I make it?

The size requirement for the non-donation account is 100 x 100. Paint is a horrible program for resizing. You could use Microsoft Office Picture Manager (assuming you have a PC) to crop and resize it - that's a pretty standard program. If you hold on a sec I'll post here the link to where you upload it once finished.

Here you go: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/profile.php?do=editavatar

You should save it as a JPEG file - probably what it will want to save as, anyway.

If you're beyond lost, let us know. We all started somewhere!

It's a great pix!

whew, the old thread wasn't as old as I thought it was, that makes me feel a little younger!

The Pa is for Pennsylvania, the Thbrd is Thoroughbred. So horses and racing (not birds and pathology 🙂) The thought that people might see either birds or path never crossed my mind when I was picking it, I was just trying to be new and different after having the same user name for everything since i was 12.

My avatar is my first seeing eye puppy, Pasha, who is now almost 7!!! Its been my buddy icon for aim for forever and is one of the only pictures ive ever bothered to size down to the appropriate dimensions hence it stays.

That's funny, cuz I was thinking pathology too when I first saw your name.

Deanna, is Pasha a dog you trained or a dog who assists you?

Greatest laptop ever! Mine got me through 4 years of undergrad, the last 2 years of life since them, and I expect it to get me through at least the first 2 years of vet school. (I actually just got done reassembling mine tonight after swapping in a 2.0ghz processor) 🙂

My avatar is pretty self-explanatory. I like to place cute kittens in blenders.

.... its actually the front of a pack of "Goodbye kitty" chewing gum.

Mine is pretty obvious as well. It is who I am and what I do, as anyone who has met me knows all too well. It is actually stolen from the vet I idolize, her liscence plate is K9repro.

Avatar is a picture of one of my dogs, Enzo Ferrari, when he was about 4 weeks old. He is 7 1/2 years now, and he and his mother Katie Scarlet love with me in my apartment.

My name, which is a nickname, came from one of the knights of the round table in Geoffrey of Monmoth's original transcription of the Arthurian legends from around 1000 AD. My real name is Jeffrey -- it's a long story but in a nutshell I was supposed to be named Geoffrey by two of my aunts who are english literature and history professors. Unfortunately, my mother, a high school drop-out, did not know how to spell, and my aunts dubbed me Kai as an act of rebellion. My egg donor still calls me Jeffrey, and is to this day bitter about the whole thing. 😡 I just like the name, it is different, kind of like me.😛

Kai

Can't you change it to a frog in the microwave or something? I'm tired of feeling sorry for the kitty. 😉

For the record (whoever's keeping a record, I don't know):

I could tell it was a black dog, though I had to squint... and I never thought PathBrd since it's PAThrbrd...

But I do get horribly confused when people change their avatars. Sometimes I think it's someone new for like, a week. I always secretly hope that I don't confuse anyone since it's always the same oddball dog in mine. 🙂

P.S. Repro, I have a cat named Kaiyobi, which is Japanese for "Tuesday" and that's what that makes me think of. 🙄 I call her kittykai.

Another blatantly obvious screen name.
Avatar is my Nubian dairy goat, Brown Tang, being very hungry/curious about the camera 🙂

FYI, you don't actually have to manually downsize your avatar pic, cause I just changed mine from a normal-sized photo and it automatically downsized. It's my bug-eyed, 13-year-old doggy I grew up with!

Mine is also pretty self explanatory. And the cutie in my picture is Ava, my 4 year old at dog beach.

Yes, Kai is also Japanese for ocean, or wide open area. I kind of like that, and the Japanese vibe too. Sometimes I claim that as the inspiration as well. My kennel name is Kaitan, but that is more from the acronym KATN, which stands for Kickin Ass and Takin Names, a Navy SEAL term.

Kai

See? I never would have known it was you. I would have been like, "Where's that one girl that had the muppet for an icon, where'd she go?"

I didn't know you could load it that way. Hmm... I think there's still a size limit, so if you have a high megapixel camera, it might still want you to resize yourself.

Haha, I was hesitant about changing it for that very reason!

Mine isn't very creative either... It's my initials and my birthday. I always like to tell people I was born 8 days after 8/8/88! 😛 I'm a nerd!

My avatar is my white Turkish Angora kitty named Aspen. He's about 9 years old, he has odd eyes (1 blue, 1 green), and he's deaf. My dad found him and his two brothers in a box in an alleyway while he was working on a job... They were maybe 6-8 weeks old and it was the middle of July and they had no water and very little food. I live in Phoenix so it was probably 115 degrees at the time! Obviously we fell in love with him and had to keep him, and we found other homes for his brothers. That kitty is pretty much the love of my life. We've had several pets but he's the first one to really adopt me. My dad found one of our other cats the same way, and has always saved birds and other creatures. He is one of the people who has really impacted me and made me want to go into vet med the most! Long story for an avatar, but there you have it! I'm feeling sentimental. 🙂

Mine is my AIM screenname, which I log into maybe once a month these days. It's my second AIM account, and I came up with it because I couldn't think of anything creative at the time.

I'm part Lithuanian, and had a fun few weeks looking up Lithuanian mythology at some point, so I grabbed two of the figures that I liked most: Aušrinė and Audeja (pronounced Aushrine and Audėya, respectively). The first is the goddess of the morning star (or Venus) and the second is the weaver of the Deivės Valdytojos (governing goddesses in Lithuanian mythology). The Deivės Valdytojos are kind of similar to the fates, except there are seven instead of three.

Both were taken on AIM, so I played around with the sounds they made and came up with Ausheya, changing the letters to make it more English-friendly. Unfortunately, I don't speak Lithuanian, I just know how to pronounce the letters and use Wikipedia. 😳

Trilt is just one of the random made up names I use online... others include Draconyst, Wistera, Furianas, and various slight variations on those.

My avvie is the internet happy cat.

My name is completely pointless. The screen name I normally use was already taken by someone on SDN, so I made something up off the top of my head. I had had some random discussion with someone that day about the concept of karma, and it came to me and seemed somewhat clever at the time.

And my avatar? What can I say except poodles are my favorite dog breed. And that one is just so... happy. It makes me laugh.

See? I never would have known it was you. I would have been like, "Where's that one girl that had the muppet for an icon, where'd she go?"

Holy crap! I didn't catch that at first either. Animal was my favorite muppet of all time. Think I'd have to say my second favorite was Beaker, who is being used on this forum by Guppy if I'm not mistaken.

agh, can't see it- it's still a horse x-ray to me.

He's in profile - Bone's a stuffed red thing in the lower L. corner...and then it's the left side of Sirius' face. Mouth slightly open.

Jaysus - does everyone see an x-ray?
