Is there any way to estimate a schools cumulative MCAT average based on there breakdown... i.e. I have seen schools say ave is 10 10 10 or 31 cum...

Also- does a schools average per section maybe indicate there preference towards the importance of a certain section?

You can buy a Medical School Admissions Requirements (MSAR) book. It gives the break down of what the avg entering MCAT score is by section. I have the 09-10 version. If you will tell me what MD school I can look it up for you.

i think the MSAR tells you the median by section of the accepted students

Let's say the actual, non-rounded medians are 10.4, 10.2, 10.3 for the school. Their median in each section is 10 10 10 but their median cumulative score would be closer to 31 or so. Arbitrary numbers, but you get the idea.

I think you can tell when you look at those averages that VR is usually on the lower end and BS is on the upper end. It's just how the test goes, really. I think it depends more on your application (e.g. if you had an upward trend BCPM GPA and you punctuated it with 12's in the sciences and like a 9 or 10 VR, it might look good for you).

MSAR numbers are slightly inflated. They are medians and they are accepted students (not matriculated).

10.7, 10.6, and 10.3 are 11, 11, 10 respectively on the MSAR.

I applied to schools within the +/- 2/3 points from my own MCAT score. Did the same for GPA. Hope that helps.

Here is a link I used in UG. It has an MCAT/GPA calculator that will predict how competitive you will be at all of the allopathic institutions across the country. After you put in the data, it'll list all the schools plus MCAT/GPA breakdown as well as state of residence. Hope this helps.

sort of off topic but how do you have a median score of 10.6? Shouldn't all medians be either whole numbers or .5? Because if you think about it, median means the middle score, the 50th percentile, and since you can only score a whole number, the median should always be either a whole number (or the average of 2 whole numbers in the unlikely event 50% divides say 10 and 11 perfectly)
