I just started training for a receptionist position at an optometry office. We haven't discussed the salary yet. If you have a private practice, from your experience, around how much do you pay your receptionist(s)? I just wanted an idea of more or less what I should be expecting.

Depends on what type of practice, what area you live in, how busy the practice is, etc. etc etc. When I worked at a commercial location the receptionist was making like 9 bucks an hour.

I'm not saying you should work for free, but if you are planning on becoming an OD, the education you will get at the front desk is invaluable...times 10.

A lot depends on the size and state of the practice, your location, number of hours you will commit... Ask for $10.

I agree. I've only been working there for a week and feel that the experience is worth way more than the salary. Definitely invaluable.

Thanks for your advice!
