They give a test to a select set of individuals. These people will have a score range. When you take the test you are given a score and a %. The score is calculated by the number you got right out of the questions available. The % is a statistic stating that you did better than whatever the % is of the individuals who took the test. The revamp this % every so often to keep it relevant with the test.
