Average Stats Thread - Secondaries/Interviews 2006

Hey guys and gals,

I find myself always searching the forums (especially the 2006 interview thread) to see WHO out there has similar stats to mine. I consider mine average and would be interested to know how many SDNers out there have average stats and where they got secondaries and/or interviews. I'm tired of looking at all these 20s across the board! (Not to take anything away from the people who got those scores....I'm sure you worked very hard to get 20's)

So, I'll start by setting some parameters for this thread. Lets say... people with 3.3 or below on GPA and 19 or below on DAT are considered "average" stats (I'm basing it on what seems to be the average stats that are admitted to dental schools). I'll get the ball rolling...

SECONDARIES:

Tufts: generallee
Boston: generallee

INTERVIEWS:

None for me at this time....

Actually, now that I think about it... It may not be a secondary. They emailed me and told me to submit my application fee. I don't know if that is their secondary or not.

So far my "hypothesis" 😀 is looking to be correct! Most SDNers are way better than the average applicant (with their high GPA's and high DAT scores) and are not a good indication of this year's applicant pool. Or, people just aren't posting their average scores.....

No no, I'll join you Generallee! I have yet to take my DAT though .. but I consider myself to be an average student 🙂

I also got emails from BU and Tufts. And, some other mailings from UPENN and Case regarding my application -- since I haven't taken my DAT yet.

I just wanted to reply b/c I didn't want you to be alone in this thread!

yeah mines are quite similar to urs.. 3.36 cum/3.32 sci with 19AA/19TS/16PAT... got several emails for fees.. sucks, I hate this waiting process..

Finally some average applicants!

Its lightens the stress level a little knowing there are others like me.

I applied to 8 schools (Indiana, Nova, Creighton, UK, Louisville, Pacific, OHSU, Maryland) and have heard back from all of them. No interview invites yet but they have requested the secondary app fee and most sent secondaries as well.
No rejections yet so thats good news. My interview and communication skills are really good from what people tell me so i'm pretty confident i'll get in somewhere. I'm hoping IU above all due to the fact that its my state school, I go to IU, and I was born a true HOOSIER!!!

I would consider you an above average applicant! We might have to kick you out of this thread. 😉 Just kiddin... But seriously, you have good stats and would consider you above average because your GPA pulls you up. Good luck, I'm sure you won't have any problems! 😀

Hey, I think I qualify for this group too! My overall GPA is 3.23 with a science GPA of 3.15 and BCP of 3.19. My DAT is 20/20/15. Good to see other people that don't have 4.0's and high 20's!! My application hasn't been sent out yet by AADSAS but hopefully will be sent with the next mailing. Good luck to everyone!

Good luck everyone! Just remember that it is still the middle of August! December 1st is a long way away and who knows how many interviews you'll have before then.

A request for a secondary really doesn't mean that much! You are correct that it really is an easy way for the dental schools to pocket some cash since there are tons of applicants X $50+ each applicant = mucho dinero! That being said it does mean that they will look at your application at least to a certain degree! I am sure of this because I have known a few applicants who have just been flat out rejected because they didn't even make the lowest cutoff! Be happy that you have sent secondaries to a lot of schools, and just hang in there! I'm sure you'll have an interview invite soon enough!

WOW! 😱 You're taking the DAT again!!!!???? I would have to say that you are not an average applicant! Unless you are trying for UOP, I would say you will get into most schools. Even then, you would have a good shot at UOP. Your DAT scores are way above average and your GPA's are above average. I would re-consider not retaking the DAT if it were me. Unless, of course, you get some kind of high by taking the DAT! 🙄

Did you have a lower DAT score when you applied the first time? If not, I'm quite surprised that you didn't get in with those scores. IMHO, your GPA's are great and your DAT scores are good enough to get into most private schools and even possibly your state school.

yup, it sure does! I believe it also includes such classes like Biochem, Microbiology, etc...It is not just limited to General Chem 1&2, Biology I&2, Physics 1&2 and OChem 1&2.

Same with me...with my situation, I hope I get into Ohio State. Although their average DAT was 19AA, I still think those with little lower DAT's still have a chance if they are instate residents. One of the admissions staff told me that only like 300 hundred something in state people applied last year so that is in our favor!
