Does anyone know where I could find information on the average USMLE scores (step 1 in particular) for medical schools? I know some schools post the scores but I was hoping there would be one place where I could get that information. Thanks!

Alot of people have wondered about this. It's not posted anywhere and if it were it wouldn't be a very meaningful stat. I'm sure Harvard has a high avg Step1 but I'd imagine that has more to do with the quality of applicant they admit rather than their groud-breaking pathology cirriculum.

My school prided itself on a long series of "boards review" lectures in which the PhDs who have no idea what is on the test came back and repeated their favorite lectures about patterns of viral genetic replication. It was completely useless. At the end of the day, Step1 comes down to you, your desk, your copy of FirstAid, and a looooong 4-6 weeks.

Good luck to you.

No such thing. For a variety of reasons school Step 1 scores have never been made public, and thus there is no accurate place you are going to find scores. Some people have assembled word of mouth lists but there are many many inaccuracies, and you are better off not relying on such things. And most med schools will tell applicants that their board scores are "above average", so there is good reason to be skeptical.

Schools as a rule mutually don't release such scores because they simply don't want this to become another ranking system by which undergrads choose med schools, and don't want to feel they somehow have to "teach to the boards" or risk losing competitive applicants (rather than try more novel, but perhaps more "real life" teaching methods, such as PBL, earlier clinical experience, half day scheduling etc). I also agree with AmoryBlaine that Step 1 is really quite student dependant, not school dependant -- every school from top to bottom of the US News list covers the same material and every student ultimately sits down with the same First Aid and qbanks -- the school has less impact on the score than the work ethic and brain power of its students. So such a list wouldn't be enlightening as to who is carrying whom -- often rather than students seeking schools that will provide you with a better Step 1, you might find that it is really the schools that are recruiting students they feel will give them a better Step 1. This game is probably won and lost at admissions, not by any value a particular school adds.

This should be in a sticky.

Unless a school WANTS to tell it to you (usually during their interview day), this information will not be publicly available.
