AWA Score Question

Hey Everyone! So, I just got back my scores from the first time I took the GRE, and I had a 510 V, 640 Q (ICK), but I got a 5.5 on the AWA. I retook the GRE and was able to raise my Q to a 690, but my V score stayed relatively stagnant. I haven't received writing scores from the second test yet, but I am confident they will be high as well (I felt good about the writing). My question is, would my high AWA score be enough for programs to overlook my low V score? I know I have strong writing skills; I simply didn't have time to memorize 5 million vocab words before it was time to take the test. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! I am applying to Clinical Psychology Ph.D. programs.

I'm not sure if they consider it much. I aced it (5/5? They changed the scoring a few years ago), but only one place actually said anything about it.

Sorry, but I doubt it. A high AWA score won't really help, but a low score would hurt. I don't have any firsthand knowledge, but I'd assume that admissions people wouldn't consider a 6.0 any differently than a 4.5. They really get to see how you write with the statement of purpose, and any writing sample you may send in.

OK, thanks for the feedback! I guess a high AW score can't hurt me, that's all that matters.

Basically, yes. I think it acts as a check for whether or not a person can write coherently in a tight time frame, and as a double-check if they suspect someone else wrote your statement of purpose, etc.
