I recently recieved a letter from my university, I was notified that I was awarded the spring 2005 Dean's List Scholar Award. I thought this would be an ideal award to include in my application, what do you all think? The upper 10% of my college gets the award, but I figured these are the students that will be applying to medical/dental schools. How many of you have recieved a Dean's List Scholar Award? Does everyone recieve these kinds of awards? And if so, is it even worth mentioning on the application? Thanks! 🙂

Unless you have a ton of other awards to include in your application, I would put it down. And congrats on getting the Award.

Of course it's worth mentioning. You should be proud to mention it. Also, "everyone" getting it would not make it any less of an acomplishment. Good job! 👍

Thank you all so much for your responses. My friends have made somewhat of a big deal about it. I thought they were being sarcastic, but I guess not.

Thanks again! 🙂

Hello again, sorry for re-posting on my own thread, but I had a question, and thought it was not worth starting another thread, since it is related to this thread, titled 'awards'.

I guess I'm having trouble with this part of the application, since I havn't really recieved many beyond high school. But I was thinking back, and realized I had recieved something called, 'Who's Who Award', or something like that. Does anyone know what this is? Anybody recieve this award? Same question as above post, is it worth mentioning on the application?

Sorry for these stupid questions, it's just that I'm kinda new to the States, and I don't know very much about these kinds of things, and how important one award is over another.

Thanks again for you help!

My response is the same to this question, too. Anything that represents you in a positive way should be included. Don't intentionally sell yourself short.

from what i heard.. this sh--ts a scam.

Guys any award that actually asks you your GPA is not ligid, So NO dont put down anything about the national deans list, would use it as bathroom paper thats about it.

thanks for all the posts, but what about 'who's who awards'? Someone posted that it was a scam, could someone explain this too me? Is it really a scam, more input would be helpful. I visited thier website, and it seems legit to me! Maybe they make it that way? I really don't know. Before I send out my application, I would really like to know more about this 'who's who' award, any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Also, what's the difference between being on the 'national' dean's list, being awarded the 'dean's list', from a University, or beign awarded the 'deans scholar award', from a University, is there a difference? With so many names of awards, it's hard to separate the real from the fake!

Thanx

Dude...you pay money and they put your name in a book.
Just trust us here. It is definitely not an honor.
Didn't you get the same who's who junk in HS?

An award from your Uni. is worth listing but national deans list and who's who are a joke. Places will know your scraping the bottom of the barrel in an effort to list as many things as possible...

Let me explain, To recieve a deans scholar award, you must be on the deans list for a certain amount of semesters, depending on the school. In order to be on the deans list, you must have a high GPA, thats why it should be listed. For your question about the WHOS WHO AWARD I think its run by the same people as the national deans list.
