Please reassure me that I'm not the only applicant without any awards or "other accomplishments"... I like how there are 2 boxes in ERAS so I can leave 2 instead of 1 blank....

🙄

word. was i supposed to enter a grammar rodeo or a knot-tying contest for some "other accomplishments"? sheesh. makes me wish i would have studied harder 1st and 2nd year to get one of those cheap-ass "top student in histology" awards or something. you are not the only one to lament the "2 boxes of sadness for the price of 1" phenomenon, rest assured.

here's to being another face in the crowd! 👍

THANKS for the reply! That's exactly what I wanted to hear. Misery does love company after all.

I made up an award:

"Greatest medical student in the history of the world"

I would be happy to share it with you guys.

I think that's an excellent award. And it could lead to some good interview conversation about how exactly you became the greatest medical student in the world. Win, win!

Are you sure you have no "other accomplishments" at all?
I think I was in this same situation x 4 years ago when applying to residency and I was able to think of something. Were you the only med student in your state to be a student delegate for your state medical assn. or AMA delegate? Were you elected by your peers as the head of any student organization? Are you runner/jogger who has completed a marathon or got age group awards in 5k races?

i think i got a gold sticker once, in elementary school, can i include that?

What about honors in rotations are we supposed to list those. It seems ridiculous to do so since they get that information elsewhere.
I am lacking in the awards section as well. The form said things like committees etc belong in volunteer, so?

what about scholarships? does it belong in the awards section? ERAS make me feel so inadequate.

what about undergrad awards/scholarships?

Yeah ... anything about undergrad scholarships?

I included undergrad awards/scholarships. Should I not? Otherwise, the blank box parade continues with me brining up the rear.

Well I got second highest marks in one of the subjects in 3rd year in my whole class ( of 180 students). But unfortunately our med school doesnt give out any "silver" medals. So I didnt get any award. But isnt it an accomplishment? Should I write it in there? But i dont have any documentary evidence for that

I think the answer is "it depends".

In general, I wouldn't list undergrad scholarships.

If you won a major award in undergrad, then you could consider listing it.

If you won something everyone has heard of (i.e. a Rhodes Scholar) then you should list it.

Remember folks that this is a really small part of your application. Your clinical work, esp in your third year, is the major driver.

What about monetary awards from like NSF you got as an undergrad for doing summer research, or from your med school for summer research. Should this go under awards or with your research experience listing?
