I started my away rotation in a small residency program . This is a program Im kinda interested in so I came early everyday , stayed late, helped everyone out. After a couple of days the program secretary calls me into her office and asks me to give her my CV, and transcript cause the program director may want to interview me 🙂. Then midway through my rotation this other student shows up. Apparently she already fiished med school, and was interested in the same specialty. Later I overheard her talking to a resident saying that her father is head of one of the other departments at the hospital. This program has like 2-3 spots per year. Now Im worried that this other student has already taken one of them😡. I guess all I can do now is play nice, and focus on what I need to do.

I'm not sure whether you are looking for advice or just want to vent. My advice to you would be to stop focusing on other people and things you can't control. Do what is in your power and ignore everything else. People seem to get SOOO caught up in what other people are doing on the wards! "What time are you coming in?" "What time are you leaving?" "Do you eat lunch?" "What do you do if your resident doesn't eat lunch?"

Do what you can do. The rest is out of your control.

My post was more of a vent. After working out, and studying some I feel better. I think SoCute said it best, that there's nothing I can do anyways. Nevertheless, does anyone have any experience with someone getting into a program because of family connections?
