away rotation in January?

I'm an MSIV applying this fall to a competitive specialty. I'm interested in doing an away elective at an institution (that i'm very interested in) that's already booked until January. Is there any point in doing an away in January? What do you guys think? Thanks for all your help!

Pros: it shows interest on my half, lets me get to know the program before i rank
Cons: may be too late for interviews

There is an additional con you seem to be neglecting: your other interviews. Most fields interview heavily in January - you wouldn't want to be stuck either turning down interviews at other programs or skipping a ton of days of an away rotation.

Aren't most interviews in Nov/Dec ? Maybe if you let the PD know you will be rotating there in January, he or she will leave a Jan spot open to interview you. I don't think it will hurt.

Mostly dec/jan. In the field I'm applying for, January is the heaviest month.
