I was wondering if it would be ok to do an ophtho away rotation from Oct. to Nov. Do programs start interviewing in the month of Oct? Or is that too early?

That should be fine - I think the earliest interviews were mid-Nov. Just make sure you have someone checking your snail mail and phone messages.

There are some programs that interviewed in mid- to late October this year.. Wilmer and Baylor are the ones that come to mind...
