I am going into FP (MS-III) and was just wondering how important it is for me to do a couple away rotations at programs I am interested in next fall. I would prefer not to travel away from my husband for months. I am a pretty average student and wouldn't imagine I would have too much trouble at matching with a decent FP program, but I could be wrong. Thougts?

Unless you just absolutely have to be at a given program (or really really really want to be at a given program), then I would do an away rotation at that program.

If not, then there really isn't a need to do an away rotation.

Aways in FM are a more important for you as the applicant then the program. Meaning, it is good to do one where you think you like because you may realize you don't fit well with the residents or something. Basically, it's a month of you evaluating them. Don't get me wrong, they'll be watching you too, but it's more important that you feel them out.
