How many threads are you going to post this in?

Fine with me. If it ain't on the EM forum, it's unlikely I'd see it at all...

THANK YOU! I must admit that I was surprised to see two of the MODS so opposed to me posting this. Yes, I did post it in every specialty's forum (perhaps over the top), but my reasons were two fold:

1) I thought that more people would see it that way. I have hungered for hard stats like this all through medical school. I thought others would appreciate it, and I normally only check ONE of the forums. I just figured other people do the same & would miss this if I only posted it in one place.

2) I thought it would open up more specialty-specific dialogue within each forum. If I had just posted this in the general discussion forum, I don't think many students going into EM would have the opportunity to exchange dialogue back and forth about it that's specific to the EM stats.

Anyway, I'm glad that I did a favor for a few people, and am sorry if I ticked anyone else off (especially the mods!). I'm not a spammer usually, but I just knew everyone would want to see this data. Thanks for your response. ND.

Dude, I'm not a mod - just tellin' ya the rules.

(In fact, this is the forum where you'll find me...)

I was not referring to your PM (see the above two messages from mods). Doesn't really matter anyway, I think I did the right thing. 🙄

The reasons why mods do not like multiple posts of the same topic:

1. It utilizes unnecessary server resources. As we all know, SDN has been plagued with its share of problems with slow and even unresponsive servers.

2. Multiple threads make it difficult to carry on quality discussion. Multiple threads mean multiple different discussions, which is discouraged.

3. In the future, your original post most qualifies for the General Residency issues forum.

Well, the problem is that not everyone who uses SDN has over 5,000 posts like you do Southerndoc. I'm glad that you take the time to moderate this forum, but you have to realize that not everyone else out there has time to check every discussion board every day for new posts. I do salute your efforts to protect the chastity of SDN from spammers. If I were using the forums to peddle Amway products, I think I would agree with your point of view. However, I was just posting something that, as a 4th year med student, I KNOW that everyone else would be interested in..in almost every forum.

In response to your multiple threads argument..I think think the REVERSE of what you are arguing is true in this case. The fact that I posted this link in each specialties forum allows each forums' respective participants to discuss the relevance of the stats to their given specialty. For example, look at the discussion in the Anesthesia, Path, Ophtho & RadOnc threads. People are analyzing the data and discussing it as it relates TO THEIR SPECIALTY. That would not be as appropriate under the "general discussion" forum & would probably not happen. And since most people don't look there, they would have missed this awesome information.

Sorry SouthernDoc, no disrespect intended..but I disagree with you in this one instance (obviously). Anyway, I've said my piece so perhaps we can move on to more substantive topics. 😉

It is a TOS violation to post the same thing or virtually the same thing more than once. You may have one of these threads, and, as was already pointed out, the gen'l residency forum makes the most sense.
