Hey I have a quick question, Yesterday I received a pre-interview wait list. Does this mean I am rejected? But they are just being nice? Or does it mean I am being looked at but have almost no chance? I'm just wondering because I do like this school a lot 🙂 but don't want to hold my breath for it if I don't really have a chance.

Has anyone gone through this and can you explain what it means of probability? Thanks 🙂

AZCOM is heavily focused on stats. If your MCAT score is less than a 29/507, that alone is enough reason for them to place you on a pre-interview hold.

If this is the case, it means they like your app enough to not reject you, but not your stats enough to accept you. If down the line they don't get enough applicants with the stats they desire, then they'll summon these pre-interview holds.

In the same situation bud. Not sure what to feel about it

When were you complete? Care to share stats or LM?

I've talked to some friends about this. Apparently it's uncommon to get an interview from an interview waitlist position.

Way to break my spirit! This is not good news.

Yeah sorry to tell you this... But I got this email in November and got a rejection letter in March.

Better to know where you stand now, rather than count on this program later. It's early. If you haven't already, apply broadly with this in mind.

Didn't mean to break your spirit bud!

Applying to med school is just one of those things we all have to be as grounded as possible in. Realism trumps imagination.

On the bright side, the waitlist interviews were sent out early. These may have an edge on the probability scale compared to later applications. Plus if youre getting a waitlist interview at one of the tougher schools to get into, you're probably in good standing overall 🙂

I'd say it's one of the tougher schools to want to pay for.

Yes. Even within podiatry realms- Small class size + higher than average stats = harder to get in. I know I'm not pre-MD/DO but for what it counts, the program is at the same school and pod students sit in on the same courses DO students do for the first 2 years. Would imagine that level of selectivity crosses programs.

I wouldn't worry too much. Several students who were on the pre-interview waitlist (including myself) ended up being interviewed later on in the cycle. Typically, they don't start reviewing waitlisted applicants until after the new year.

OP, as previously mentioned, AZCOM is a very stat heavy school and, according the Goro, is one of the top DO tier schools. I'm in the same boat as you.

At this point, as someone else mentioned, if you're on an interview wait list instead of being flat out rejected at a top tier school, you should be in decent standing for others. Keep your chin up.

I was placed on the interview waitlist in November of last cycle and offered an interview in February. Interview waitlist isn't a death sentence guys.

Same here, except I think it was March. Either way, it happens.

Not necessarily. You might be somewhere in a pile of apps with people who have better stats that you. IIs are not sent out in chronological order of receipt of apps...they're stratified at every medical school, by differing criteria.

If your MCAT is < 28, then you can probably expect a rejection.

Same; it's better than a rejection!

Had AZCOM II-waitlist in October last year and got an II March

I was put on the interview waitlist there a few years ago. I got an interview invite after I got my MCAT retake score. Ended up interviewing in April and getting placed on the waitlist. Ultimately I asked to be removed from the waitlist, because I was sitting on another acceptance.

So I don't think the pre-interview list is a "death sentence", but I wouldn't expect to get off it without a major update to your application (a 4.0 semester, an improved MCAT, etc).

Look at the bright side. If you got a pre-interview hold rather than a rejection, it means the rest of your app looks good. This should give you all added confidence for when other schools look at your apps.

I received a pre interview hold from AZCOM last cycle around September and received an II in March, with little improvement/change to my app, so don't get too discouraged!!

do you mind sharing mcat stats?

From what I've gathered from several upperclassmen, AZCOM admissions give IIs on a 29 cutoff first, then widens their criteria a bit later into the cycle.

I actually got a 504? I don't know if thats a 28 or what that is on the new scale.

That's exactly a 28 if your percentile score is the 67th
