Hello everyone!

Recently accepted to both schools, and the deadline for the deposits is coming up soon. Having a tough time deciding between the two, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

AZCOM
Pros
  • I prefer Glendale as a city, it definitely offers a lot more to do as compared to Buies Creek, at least from what I could tell during my interview visits
  • Much closer to home (SoCal), couple hour drive vs cross country flight
  • No mandatory attendance
Cons
  • Weekly testing schedule is brutal
  • Higher tuition (around 25K more)
  • Have been hearing mixed reviews from current students

CUSOM
Pros
  • Facilities seemed slightly more refined to me as far as I could tell
  • Less intense curriculum, more/longer breaks
  • Really liked the staff and overall vibe of the school, it seemed more inclusive and less competitive than AZCOM
Cons
  • More strict attendance requirements
  • Much farther away from home
  • Location is more rural than what I'm used to

Having a hard time deciding if the proximity to home of AZCOM is worth the extra tuition. The match/COMLEX pass rates seemed fairly equal between the two, so I'm hoping someone can give me more info that would help me choose. Are there any real differences in the quality of academics or general student life that I'm overlooking? Thanks in advance!

From what I’ve read on these threads, the most important factors to consider when evaluating two similarly-ranked schools are grading and attendance policies, distance from support system, and THEN cost. With that in mind, I would go to AZCOM. However, $100k in loans and accruing interest is brutal. Going to the cheaper school may be a huge benefit if you decide on primary care or something.

Personally, just because of the extra 100K over the 4 years I’d pick CUSOM. It seems like from your list that you also meshed better with CUSOM’s faculty and overall feeling which I think is really important. While it may not be as close to home, is AZ really that close that you think you’d be going home more often? You’ll be studying a lot, and you said CUSOM has more and longer breaks so you may be home the same amount or more. Just my thoughts! Tough decision for sure.

I made this exact decision last year and chose CUSOM, even though I'm originally from Arizona. AZCOM is not worth that much tuition; no school is worth that extra money, especially once interest starts accruing. I promise your future self will thank you for not having to pay all that back in loans, and for not having to take so many tests if you choose CUSOM. If you have any questions about Campbell, feel free to message me!

CUSOM based on your pros and cons- your cons for AZCOM (weekly testing schedule, higher tuition, and mixed reviews) seem as if it will not be worth the money and be a much more intensive program. CUSOM while may not be your ideal location, it will be only 4 years, but of course mandatory attendance is a bummer.

$100,000 plus accruing interest would definitely dissuade me from choosing AZOM

CUSOM because of tuition and because they are actually doing an excellent job having GME for their students which reflects why they get 100% placement rate every year and why they had people match at some really good residency programs this year.
