I remember seeing a thread on here not long ago that contained a warning about a potentially dire rotation situation at AZCOM. Can't seem to locate it again via search...

What is the story? Do they have hospital access in Arizona? Will rotations for the class of 2010 be at good spots? Will students need to travel out of state many times to get things done?

Thanks in advance.

Jake

I have spoken with the counselors at Midwestern about rotations and they said they do have hospitals. The best way to find out this information is to contact them directly. 😉

The problem was, in the past, 4th year was pretty much ok but 3rd year students couldn't rotate in the Phoenix area hospitals. This meant that you either a) did the school's version of 3rd year which was a preceptor model where you would follow, for instance, a surgeon in doing everything he did. That's how I understood it. Or b) you set up your own rotations in places all over the country. So that stunk for many people who didn't want to fly all over, arrange housing etc for rotations AND wanted to have the traditional setup.

Now things seem to be improving because they recently passed a bill or something where they are making the hospitals take AZCOM 3rd years. So by the time you would be a 3rd year things would almost for sure be pretty smooth.

Still a great schoolr anyway, the 1st and 2nd yr didactic curriculum is top notch and you can't beat the setting. 🙂

I'm a 3rd year at AZCOM and the rotation stuff is already changing. They are adding all kinds of PHOENIX surgery and IM rotations. I have already done a hospital based IM rotation down in Tucson (with UA students) and in March I have one at Maricopa County. By the time you get to this point, it will be even more improved (though to be honest, I have not noticed any problems with rotations thus far).

Good luck!
Matt :luck:
